Every map here is drawn by circles.
Take the outline of a country, with every internal border, as one continuous line. A Fourier series breaks that line into thousands of circles, each spinning at its own constant speed, each one riding on the edge of the one before. Chain 4096 of them together and the tip of the last circle traces the map with an error below 0.1%.
The ancient astronomers called these circles on circles epicycles; they used them to predict the planets. We use them to draw. Every video on @epicycle.studio shows the drawing happening, from a single circle to thousands, and every print in this shop is the final frame of one of those videos, with the real equations printed underneath.
